What I like about the PE770 is that it’s an embroidery-only machine, which means that it’s designed specifically for embroidery projects. You might already have a dedicated sewing machine, so why would you want to buy a combination sewing and embroidery machine?
Work Space
Being an embroidery-only machine means that the work space of the PE770 has been designed with you in mind. It has a generous field of 5” x 7” to allow for larger designs and lettering. You’re also able to combine designs without needing to rehoop. There’s lots of room for you to work on your embroidery project, no matter if it’s something basic or extensive!
Embroidery Designs
There are 136 embroidery designs available for you, including scrollwork, florals and quilt patterns, as well as frame shapes and border styles. And the great news is that you can create your own design and upload it onto the machine via the USB port. There’s also a built-in embroidery card slot so you can use designs available on other Brother embroidery cards (which you can purchase separately).
For those who would like to customize their designs, you can easily do this using the editing features on the machine. You can rotate, mirror-image and then preview your edited design before you start stitching. You can also choose the increase or decrease the size of the design. The Brother PE770 has a nice back-lit LCD display to make it easy for you to do your editing.
Threading, Thread Cutter & Spools
The Brother PE770 embroidery machine also has features that other sewing machines include, to make your project easier to work on. There’s an automatic needle threader to help you easily thread your needle, which is great if you’re a beginner or if you usually struggle with threading needles. I also like the Quick-Set drop-in bobbin feature that Brother includes in all its sewing and embroidery machines. All you need to do is drop your bobbin, pull the thread through the slot and you’re ready to begin embroidering!
Another great feature is the automatic thread trimmer. When you’ve finished, simply push the button and your upper and lower threads will be automatically trimmed by the machine. This saves you needing to have your scissors ready, and makes the process much faster.
Something that a lot of embroiderers love about this machine is the design of the spools. They have a double-snap design- with snaps at the top and bottom which prevents the thread from unwinding.
The machine has speeds of up to 650 stitches per minute, and you can control the sewing speed using the lever on the side of the machine. There’s also a button you can press to stop and start the stitching.

Being a computerized embroidery machine, sometimes it can be annoying having to scroll through the different designs before you find the one you want. But this is the nature of having a computerized machine, and isn’t just a problem with the Brother PE770!
Other negatives I have come across are simple things that embroidery beginners have trouble with, such as threading the needle or choosing the right settings. Beginners need to understand that it can take a few turns before you get used to your new machine. Have a little patience, read the manual or watch this great tutorial video:
