The Brother SE600 is a very popular combination sewing and embroidery machine, and it’s easy to see why.
Brother has designed a machine that gives you lots of features to create a customized, professional looking craft project at an affordable price for most hobby sewing and embroidery enthusiasts.
I really like this machine. Most combination machines aren’t designed to do a good job at both sewing and embroidering. Often the machine will be better at sewing or embroidering but not both. This is why I like the Brother se600- it does both tasks well, and offers features that suit both project types.
You won’t need two separate machines to do both tasks- you can use this machine for both sewing and embroidery projects. This will save you money and space- one machine in your sewing area takes up enough room!
Designs & Stitches
There are 80 built-in embroidery designs, 103 built-in sewing stitches (including 10 autosize buttonhole styles), 120 frame patterns and 9 embroidery fonts. This makes the Brother se600 machine perfect for embroidery, sewing, home décor and crafting projects.
To select your desired stitch or design, simply scroll through the options on the LCD screen until you find the perfect one for your project.
You can edit your designs by either rotating, creating mirror-images, or increasing and decreasing your design.
Computer Connectivity
I love that the machine has computer connectivity- you can connect your computer to easily import embroidery designs from your computer. You can then edit the designs to customize them for your requirements. This makes designing projects so much quicker and easier for you!
The Brother se600 is compatible with iBroidery.com, so you can purchase additional embroidery designs and upload them to your machine via your computer.
For embroidery, you can import your own embroidery designs using the USB port or just use the 80 included embroidery designs.
Brother se600 threading
For threading, there’s an automatic needle threading system as well as the drop-in top bobbin. The bobbin-winding system is easy.
Once you’ve finished your project, there’s a thread cutter that you use by pressing a built-in push-button. This is very convenient, so you won’t need to search for scissors!
Machine Speed
The maximum speed for sewing is 710spm while the maximum speed for embroidering is 400spm. You can easily adjust the speed to suit your needs and the project you’re working on.
Presser Feet
I love that Brother includes presser feet when buying the machine. The included feet are the buttonhole foot, overcasting foot, monogramming foot, zipper foot, blind stitch foot, button fitting foot and embroidery foot. You can purchase other feet separately.
Built-in Tutorials
To learn how to use your machine, there are built-in tutorials that you can view on the brightly-lid LCD screen. Or you can choose to read the manual, or check out the youtube video below:

Brother se600 reviews: frequently asked questions
You may have read other Brother se600 reviews but most don’t share the positives and the negatives and try to just sell you the product. Here are some frequently asked questions and honest answers so you don’t make the same mistakes that many do when they’re shopping for a new sewing and embroidery machine.
Can the Brother se600 be used for leather and denim projects?
No, the Brother se600 isn’t built for leather and denim. You’d need an industrial sewing machine to work with these types of materials. You can read my review on the Juki, which is perfect for leather, denim and nylon. I also have a review of the best heavy duty sewing machines.
Is the Brother se600 a suitable sewing machine for beginners?
The Brother se600 is suited to beginners and to those who are ready for a “next level” machine. I wouldn’t recommend spending the money if you’re not sure you’re going to like sewing and embroidery but for those with a little sewing experience (at least enough to know you want to keep doing it!), the Brother se600 is a great investment.
If you’re a beginner to embroidery, I recommend checking out the Embroiderers’ Guild of America for some free projects and great information to help you get started!
I already have a sewing machine but need something for embroidery. Is the Brother se600 a good choice?
If you already have a dedicated sewing machine, then I’d recommend buying a dedicated embroidery machine instead of buying a combination machine like the Brother se600. This machine is better suited for people without a sewing machine as they can buy a 2-in-1. Buy a dedicated embroidery machine if you have the money and space for storage.
One final word in this Brother se600 review…
The Brother se600 combination embroidery and sewing machine is a great choice for those looking to upgrade their sewing machine and need embroidery features, or for those just starting out who don’t own a sewing machine at all.
If you already have a sewing machine that you’re happy with, but you need a machine to use for embroidery projects, then you’d be better off choosing a dedicated embroidery machine rather than a combination sewing and embroidery machine.
If you’re a beginner and want both a sewing machine and embroidery machine, then a combination machine like the Brother se600 is recommended. Having one machine is better for your budget, plus it will take up less space in your sewing room/project area!
